Jimmy Andrews’ Midlife Crisis is reborn. Not seen since finishing in the top 10 at HCSC 2017, the London twosome of Jim Brook (aka Cellphone, The Resistors) and Andy Mendelson (The Jet Set Junta, The Quirks, The Resistors) has emerged from hibernation.

Here’s Jim on Gotta Getta Grip:
It’s a song about a guy trapped in a one-sided relationship. You might have been there yourself: you’re crazy to keep chasing, to keep hoping, to keep giving in. Trouble is, the object of your obsession is so damn hot. You know you “Gotta Getta Grip”… but can you?

And here’s Andy on Jimmy Andrew Midlife Crisis:
They’re back! After an eight-year hiatus caused by musical differences and Jimmy’s spiralling Marmite addiction, they return for one last hurrah. Hurrah! They’ve slimmed down, re-strung the bouzouki and are ready to blow your socks off. With Les, Florian, Clyde and Ron in tow, Jimmy leads the boys on one last time-travelling adventure… Groovy.

Lyrics:

I’m asking you now, asking you now:
What do you see?
An insect in a web, struggling to set its body free.
Please tell me, lover, why you gotta have this hold on me.

I gotta getta grip…

I’m asking you now, asking you now:
What do you hear?
The pounding of my heart, whenever you decide to reappear.
Please tell me, lover, why I gotta pay the puppeteer.

It wasn’t meant to be this way: no, no, no.
It wasn’t meant to hurt this way,
Now I long for the day when I can finally say
I got a grip…

I gotta getta grip…

I’m asking you now, asking you now:
What do you feel?
When you’re walking down the street, calling every guy in town to heel.
Well I’m telling you, lover, this panting little puppy-dog can’t deal.

It wasn’t meant to be this way: no, no, no.
It wasn’t meant to hurt this way,
Now I long for the day when I can finally say
I got a grip…

I gotta getta grip…
