Hey thereee, I’m Lucidesque and I’m entering the Home Composed Song Contest with my song “One and the Same”. I am an 18 year old university student from the UK, and I’ve been making electronic music in my bedroom for the past 2 years. It has been a trial-and-error process as I have no instrument experience or knowledge of music theory. In fact, I barely knew what a chord was until a little too recently. However, I think I’ve improved enough to begin showcasing my art publicly, so here goes.
My song “One and the Same” is dedicated to my old self. I’ve been an anxious person for my whole life, to the point where I could barely go out by myself, but since settling into university I’ve really managed to let that part of me go. So this song is addressed to the old me, telling them that it’ll get better and to quit fearing what people think, because ultimately nothing matters and everyone’s more focused on themselves anyway.
Lyrics:
(But I got cards left to play
We might be one and the same
But we don’t play the same game)
You’re hanging on the words of your peers
But your own voice hides in the sand
You’re always on the highest alert of who’s watching
While losing sight of yourself
‘Cause I was you once, scrambling for self-relief
Spending nights toss-and-turning from anxiety
I picked myself up and kept my head above the waves
And hurry up ‘cause it’s harder the longer you wait
We go by different rules, for me they’ve all gone away
And your demons are reflected in me clear as a vase
We might be in the same car but you know it’s in my name
I’m on a different plane so let that sink in your brain
We’re more estranged than before you first came round to my place
You’re already crashing out but I got cards left to play
You’re busy stressing yourself but I’m just riding the wave
We might be one and the same but we don’t play the same game
Quit trying to fake like you’re with it
‘Cause deep down no-one knows
I know you’re striving to fit in
But it’s harder than it’s worth
‘Cause I was you once, scrambling for self-relief
Spending nights toss-and-turning from anxiety
Pick yourself up and keep your head above the waves
And hurry up ‘cause it’s harder the longer you wait
We go by different rules, for me they’ve all gone away
And your demons are reflected in me clear as a vase
We might be in the same car but you know it’s in my name
I’m on a different plane so let that sink in your brain
We’re more estranged than before you first came round to my place
You’re already crashing out but I got cards left to play
You’re busy stressing yourself but I’m just riding the wave
We might be one and the same but we don’t play the same game
We might be one and the same
But I got cards left to play
We might be one and the same
But we don’t play the same game
We might be one and the same
But I got cards left to play
We might be one and the same
But we don’t play the same game
